While fans are still salivating over that Tekken 8 gameplay trailer from The Game Awards 2022, series Director Katsuhiro Harada is still giving props to the current entry Tekken 7. Harada took to Twitter and announced that Tekken 7 has now sold more than 10 million copies since it launched in 2017, and impressive achievement. On top of that, Harada also mentioned that this brings the total lifetime sales of the entire Tekken franchise to more than 54 million sold, an astounding milestone for a series that began life in the same year that the PlayStation was released.
Harada also announced the news with a beautiful art piece that features all of the Tekken fighters in formal wear drinking champagne and celebrating the occasion. Of course since the game’s take place during the King of the Iron Fist Tournament, there are two giant golden fists crossing in the left side of the room. The patriarch himself, Heihachi Mishima is sitting front and center looking absolutely dapper as always. Either way there’s a lot going on in this image, and it shows the vast differences of every fighter which is also displayed with how they fight and where they come from.
As we mentioned, Tekken 7 has been trucking along since it launched in 2017, and has since become a huge fan favorite within the fighting game community. Before the current milestone, it reached more than 9 million copies sold back in June 2022, which also made it the best-selling entry in the entire franchise. In a sea of many unique fighting game series, the Tekken franchise is one of the biggest out there, and has established itself as an all time classic in both the fighting game fan base, but the video game fan base all over the world. Whenever Tekken 8 launches, we’ll be there for another helping of close quarters combat at the highest level.
