Techland To Give a Development Update on Dying Light 2 Next Week

It’s been nearly three years since Techland announced Dying Light 2 at E3 2018. The game was originally supposed to launch sometime in 2020 but was delayed that same year for the foreseeable future. With little to no information and reports of bad situation at the studio, the game’s future doesn’t exactly look promising. However, the studio announced at the very end of last year that they would have new updates for us sometime in 2021. Now, it looks like those updates are ready to be shared as the studio has revealed that they will give us a “developers update” next week on Wednesday, March 17.

As you can see in the tweet above, Techland has “a few words” to share with us in regards to the development of Dying Light 2, as well as some potential images/gameplay. They’ve also linked their Discord for those who wish to “see it first” although it isn’t clear what they will be showing in their own server. This developers update is very much needed, as it was reported last month that the overall atmosphere and team morale at Techland was in very poor state, which included a toxic work environment and deterring creative thinking, something that is very paramount to a video game developer.

Due to these allegations, Dying Light 2 has become an unfortunate subject among not only the fanbase but the gaming community in general. Techland is well versed in the zombie survival genre, which was evident with their critically acclaimed 2011 release Dead Island. There were plans for sequel, Dead Island 2, but the project ended up being given to a carousel of developers over the course of several years, which has been well documented over the years. An incomplete playable build was also leaked just last year, before being taken down numerous times.

Techland instead went on to create Dying Light, which launched in 2015 and was also well received by critics and gamers alike. The anticipation for the sequel has been building ever since it was revealed in 2018, but that anticipation has slowed quite a bit with the recent news of the studio’s current situation. Techland has a chance here to save themselves, and it will be interesting to see what they reveal in the coming week. Hopefully, we’ll also see a release date or at the very least a release time frame.
