Fans of Team Liquid will now be rewarded for engaging and participating in organization events through a new platform called Liquid+. The site is still in beta, and sign-ups will open periodically throughout the month of December. Those who manage to get in will have the opportunity to earn points and unlock perks and prizes for interacting with Team Liquid.
The launch of Liquid+ is also apart of Team Liquid’s 20 year anniversary, celebrating their genesis in the year 2000. In a statement, the organization promises “further investments into world-class esports athletes, facilities, and infrastructure…” Liquid+ is just one way for Team Liquid to organize their fan base, discover who they are, what they want, and create a community around them. They insist their goal is to stand at the “forefront of a thriving new industry.” This new platform is a unique venture; one that is certainly conducive to that initiative.
Team Liquid co-CEO Steve Arhancet shared the inspiration behind Liquid+ to GamesBeat, citing an interaction with a female fan who was very overwhelmed and happy meeting him. He goes on to say, “I felt like such an asshole. She had been expressing so much loyalty, like purchasing merch and following the brand on Twitter, and I didn’t know? How messed up is that?” From then on, he explained their mission to recognize fans as “individual people” and saw Liquid+ as a chance to give back to those who supported the team. The beta was only open to 500 sign-ups on day one, but more will be let in periodically. Plans are for the platform to completely move out of beta status by the end of the year.
