Envy Gaming has bought into the brand new Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) league, FLASHPOINT. The league is operated by FACEIT and has a buy-in price of $2 million. Team Envy becomes the seventh founding team of the league.
Other FLASHPOINT teams include MiBR, Mad Lions, Gen.G, Cloud9, Dignitas, and c0ntact Gaming. Mike Rufail, Owner and CEO of Envy Gaming, commented on his excitement joining the league in a release, saying “With a new roster and a new home for our team in FLASHPOINT to start 2020, we expect to write the next chapter in our Counter-Strike legacy for Envy fans everywhere.” Joining the first-ever team-owned CS: GO league is definitely conducive to expanding their legacy in the Counter-Strike community. FLASHPOINT as a company has it’s own plans to improve the community by addressing “core issues” they feel plague the CS: GO such as “a lack of stability and long term investment.”
The league has yet to fill out, with 3 vacant spots on their 10 team roster. Despite placing more recent emphasis on games like Overwatch, Team Envy looks to recommit to CS: GO, and they are putting their money where their mouth is. They have to in a league like FLASHPOINT, where teams outside the top 20 in CSPPA-approved rankings accrue $100,000 in fines. This venture is definitely one for teams with significant financial backing. Envy Gaming is no stranger to exclusive leagues, having competed in Activision Blizzard’s two franchised competitions.
