Tales From The Borderlands Revealed At SXSW

A panel at the SXSW Interactive 2014  has revealed details on Tales From The Borderlands, TellTale and Gearbox team up together to bring you this story-driven adventure game collaboration. The Panel was called ‘Two Sides to Every Story.” Polygon reports that the two main characters, Rhys and Fiona, will narrate the story from a future perspective, which means you control where the future leads for the characters.

You won’t be playing as a goody-goody hero but rather a couple of lying, greedy, self-serving characters named Fiona and Rhys. Fiona is a con artist, while Rhys is an employee at Hyperion(led by Borderlands 2 villain Handsome Jack)with a robotic arm. You use Fiona’s smooth talking and hacking skills at various parts of the game.

“You never really play what actually happened, you’re playing this Big Fish version of what happened,” Telltale’s Kevin Bruner explained during the panel. Instead of having choices like The Walking Dead series where you have two worse choices you don’t want to pick, for example who lives or who dies, you’ll be given more desirable options. The options presented to the players will be more humorous like TellTale adventure games, Sam and Max and Tales of Monkey Island, and lighter than Clementine or Bigby’s misadventures.

“We’ve got all this pent up comedy in boxes around the studio that we’ve been wanting to unpack,” TellTale President, Kevin Bruner said.

You will be going through flashbacks, playing from the perspectives of Fiona and Rhys for the same event but different outcomes.

According to Polygon, Designer Harrison Pink mentions that Tales from The Borderlands will have some shooting that the Borderlands games are known for, “just in a Telltale kind of way.”

Telltale’s currently announced and in-development projects include Tales From the Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us, the second season of The Walking Dead that just came out on all platforms last week, and a new Game of Thrones adventure series.
