It looks like one of Square Enix’s dormant franchises is primed for a comeback. Earlier today, a title by the name of Tactics Ogre: Reborn was listed on the PlayStation Network Store. The listing was apparently a leak, as it was taken down almost as fast as it went up. The listing was initially spotted by Escapist Magazine, and sub sequentially tweeted and reported on by basically everyone on the internet. This supposed remake was actually spotted back in April when Square Enix filed trademark for the name in their native Japan, making this listing seem more plausible and is more than likely going to be announced in the foreseeable future.
The listing also showed a new key art with the title in the foreground, similar to the featured image shown in the tweet above. The listing did not have any release date or time frame, but it did have a tidbit of information where it showed support with the DualShock 4 controller as well as support functions. It had all of the telltale signs of a proper listing for the PlayStation Network, and yet it was still pulled. This was more than likely a precursor for a more official announcement or reveal from Square Enix, which could come in the form of many scenarios. They don’t have any specific presentations planned, but they could use another platform to make the announcement at a later time.
Interestingly enough, this was actually the second leak to come from the PlayStation Network in less than week. Last Thursday, just before the Summer Game Fest livestream, The Last Of Us Part I was leaked via a new listing in a similar manner as Tactic Ogre: Reborn. The title was officially unveiled during the event at the very end, which sadly stole a bit of the thunder for the stream’s finale. Still, it’s interesting to see two IPs have a leaked listing in such short order, and just before they’re given the green light to be shown. As we already mentioned, there’s always a possibility for Square Enix to make the listing official, but the only ones who will be ready to do that is Square Enix themselves. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long.
