Developer DESTINYbit has announced that their tactical, team management, ‘spaghetti anime’ mecha, sandbox RPG NITRO GEN OMEGA will be launching in early access for PC via Steam this Spring, this news from Gematsu.
The setting of NITRO GEN OMEGA is a vast, open-world continent that players will explore from the deck of an airship. Players will assume the role of the captain of the airship and manager of the crew of four other pilots on the ship. You’ll lead your crew of mercenaries through the wastelands overrun by the machines. You’ll engage in Mech battles as well as recruit new pilots by playing solo or online where every character is generated procedurally.
DESTINYbit CEO and creative director Gian Paolo Vernocchi shared in a press release on Gematsu “We’re so excited to launch NITRO GEN OMEGA in early access this spring,” and also said “We are so grateful for our existing community, everyone who played the demo during Steam Next Fest and our pre-alpha playtesters who have helped us with vital feedback. We did our best to deliver an exciting sandbox shonen experience and we hope to have the privilege to continue developing it alongside the community during the Early Access.”
NITRO GEN OMEGA features a turn-based tactical, timeline based fighting system. You’ll command each crew member to dodge, shoot, deploy coolant and manage your operator to throw smoke grenades. You can customize your Mech, choosing from three models and equipping parts to navigate the wastelands while also training your crew members with unique abilities. The Airship serves as a homebase where you’ll accrue points to improve your crew’s abilities and manage their morale. You’ll complete contract settlements and hire unique pilots. Online play offers an asynchronous function where each character is unique and is subject to permadeath, players can trade loot and pilots, build teams and engage in duels.
Developer DESTINYbit have aimed to create a game that puts you, the player, in the director’s seat of an anime, from their press release “…blends deep tactical gameplay with the feeling of directing your own anime episode.” With this effort put forth in creating a feature rich anime Mech battler, they may well succeed in creating this sense of familiarity for fans of the genre.
