Developer Nightdive Studios have announced that their action adventure first-PersonShooter System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster will launch on July 10. Gematsu reports that the title is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The title was originally slated to launch with the PC release this past June, but was delayed.

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is set in 2114 aboard the FTL starship Von Braun and its accompanying UNN vessel Rickenbacker, both overrun by hybrid mutants and a malevolent rogue AI named SHODAN. Players assume the role of a cybernetically-enhanced soldier who awakens from cryosleep on the Von Braun with amnesia. The player’s goal is to survive on the Von Braun and Rickenbacker and uncover the truth behind the catastrophic events.

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster ’s release indicates “System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster has been rebuilt for modern platforms using Nightdive Studios’ proprietary KEX Engine” boasting improved visuals and performance over the original 1999 title, with 4k resolution at 120 fps. The title also features an adjustable field of view , post-processing effects, and widescreen support. Cooperative play is included and trophy support. Developer Nightdive Studios has also emphasized that  full mod support is included  and the ability to implement community-made missions at launch.

Nightdive Studios’ intent for the System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is to modernize a classic while preserving its core identity. They aimed to deliver a definitive experience by enhancing visuals, optimizing performance for modern platforms and adding controller support. With a focus on improving the once unstable co-op, making it cross-platform and stable, the developer has made great strides in bringing the title forward. Their goal was to make the game accessible and enjoyable for newcomers while honoring its legacy for the veterans, well know if it all paid off for console owners just next week.
