Sym, developed by Mastertronic and ATRAX Games, is a puzzle-platformer game currently scheduled for release in March, but you can check out the free demo that was recently released on Steam.
Sym inverts the norms of platforming with a theme that is inspired by and explores social anxiety disorder. The game features the story of a young boy named Josh who is tormented by social anxiety and lives in his own world as two alter egos depicted by white and black. You play as he navigates his journey to reconcile the maze of contrasting worlds which represent his perception of reality and the world he created to avoid his fears.
According to the developers, every tile in Sym has a meaning, i.e., they behave as logic gates, changing color depending on nearby tiles. As you play, you flip between the realms of light and dark to solve problems and journey through them while learning to utilize both distinct spaces to avoid obstacles and find a path to safety.
ATRAX Games and Mastertronic invite you to plunge into the Sym demo to help Josh solve his problems and navigate his journey through the realms of light and dark. Can you support Josh to find a path to safety?
Sym will be launching for Windows PC and Mac next month (actual date is to be announced). You can view the game’s trailer below and try the free demo on Steam.

Sym is the perfect example of how games can push boundaries and combine great gameplay whilst tackling significant real-world issues. The team at Atrax Games handle the challenge with distinction. It’s a pleasure to be working with them to bring Sym to the world.
