Survive The Red Planet In Memories Of Mars

Surviving the unforgiving landscape of Mars alone is a difficult task. Surviving while others are inhabiting the planet could make it easier or a lot more difficult depending on who you might encounter.

Memories of Mars is an open-world survival game set on a desolate Mars. The story goes that it was once a thriving mining colony that has since been abandoned as the conditions proved too difficult to maintain. As a newly awoken clone, your life span has been limited by solar flares hitting the planet every few weeks. Your goal is simply to survive.

That’s enough material for a solid single player campaign built around exploring, building up a base, and surviving the elements. But that isn’t all that is at play here. This is a shared-world survival game, meaning players will be on servers together, and they can choose to work as a team with their friends to survive, or work to avoid others who might wish them harm.

The early access trailer was launched last month, and gives players an idea of what the game will look like:

There are definitely a lot of similarities to games like ARK: Survival Evolved. Players work together or against one another, can build impressive structures and design the base to fit their style of play, and will even be able to build defenses against potential raiders.

According to a blog post from the developers, this move to early access comes after a couple of closed betas where they tested their servers. The limited beta explored about 60% of the map that would be available in the full game, and developers are already working on implementing some changes that people were requesting.

Vehicles are first on the agenda, and while apparently they won’t be ready for Season 1, there are plans to add them quickly after that. It’s great to see that there are already plans for expansion before the game has even officially launched.

Memories of Mars will enter early access on Steam as of June 5 for $29.99.
