Survival game ‘Sheltered’ achieves Kickstarter goal

Publisher Team 17 is bringing the survival strategy game Sheltered to PC and Ouya gaming systems after a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Team 17 previously developed games for the Worms franchise until the studio deiced to become a independent developer. After deviating from third-party development, Sheltered is now publishing games. Developer Unicube is the studio Team 17 is betting on to make the Kickstarter funded title Sheltered. The studio originally asked for £15,000 and has reached a goal of £20,075, as of right now. Although this is not reflected on the Kickstarter site, £25 is passed the goal of porting the game for Android and iPad tablets.

Unlike other survival games on the market, Sheltered requires a player to care for a family during the beginning of the apocalypses. The game’s are style takes inspiration from side scrollers and NES era art-style. As players progress in the game, they manage an underground shelter as their home. Traveling outside is required to gather resources to survive and “moral choices” will be made.

A press release from the company details the partnership between Team 17 and Unicube to create this unique gaming experience.

“The minute we saw the concept we absolutely knew we wanted Sheltered to join our indie partner program,” said Debbie Bestwick, Team17’s Managing Director in the press release.

“I think the process from our 1st look to signing it actually took around 48 hours, which shows not only the speed of which we move but also the belief both parties have in each other,” he said.  “Sheltered will be a very special game with huge potential, we’re really excited about working with Dean and Sonny over the course of the year and helping them create their first commercial indie game!”

Dean Foster and Sonny Meek are the co-owners, at Unicube and said they are very honored to be working with Team 17.  Their statment is as follows:

We’ve been long-time fans of the Worms franchise. They were some of the first games we played on our PCs when we were younger. To think we’re now working alongside them is a bit surreal. We’re really excited about working with Team17 over the next year, and think we have a bright future ahead!”

The game is scheduled for a 2015 release and still has till July 4 to collect funds. Check out the trailer below.
