Back in August, Supermassive Games announced that they would be creating a successor to their 2015 hit Until Dawn. It was stated this successor would be an anthology of horror games under the title of The Dark Pictures, and the first of this anthology would be known as Mad of Medan. The original trailer shows off a group of five people who go out diving and uncover something that they probably shouldn’t have. The game quieted down after that, until yesterday October 30 when The Dark Picture’s twitter account announced something coming as a Halloween treat:
The tweet itself doesn’t have much in it other than a rocky boat that has been part of the title image for Man of Medan and to keep watch for said Halloween treat. Well, it is Halloween now, and Supermassive Games delivered:
This is the first trailer since the announcement that Supermassive Games has shown of Man of Medan. The trailer sets the scene with Mozart’s “Lacrimosa”, and a familiar face. While the narrator may look debatably similar to the psychologist Dr. Hill character from Until Dawn, he is simply known as The Curator (voiced by Pip Torrens), according to the developers. However, it is possible that The Curator will fill a similar role, as he tells the story of the game to come.
The clips that don’t focus on The Curator, show off more of the horrors that will be part of the story. In one of the scenes it shows off a type of leech that can become an issue, as well as an “abhorrent evil” and someone that captures a few of the five main characters. Or all them.
It’s revealed that the game is continuing its use of the Butterfly Effect, where each choice that the player makes will have repercussions later down the line. Each of the five characters can be saved or not, depending on the choices the player makes. This makes it so the game has several endings depending on these choices, and other scenes that might happen because of the same thing. The Curator reminds us that there are always repercussions.
The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan will be fully available in 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. During the wait, it would be wise to listen to The Curator’s words, and decide what kind of choices you make.
