Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is going to be one of the main featured games at Japan’s Evo 2020. According to IGN, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be the main title this January in Japan. The Evo Japan website has stated that there will be numerous tournaments occurring during the event including BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, Samurai Shodown, Soulcalibur VI, and Tekken 7.
The announcement was made at the Nintendo Live Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Challenge Cup grand finals. On the Evo Japan Website, the rules for the tournament state that the battles will be a 3 stock 7-minute battle with matches being a 2 out of 3. The Winners Final, Losers Final, and Grand Final will be played 3 games out of 5. There will be no items or stage hazards allowed and players will not be allowed to pause during a game. Participants will be unable to see their score display, however, damage percentage will still be visible. Smash Meters and Spirits will not be allowed during the tournament and team attack will be enabled. Players will be able to use Mii Fighters and all moveset combinations will be legal, however, players must name themselves after a 4-digit number showing what moves they selected in the order Neutral, Side, Up, and Down.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has had its share of DLC characters come from a number of franchises including the Hero from the Dragon Quest series as well as Joker from the Persona series. Players are still waiting for Banjo Kazooie to be added and there is even a rumor that Terry Bogard will become a DLC character, however this is unconfirmed at the moment. Recently, there was a leak about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate possibly getting Geno as a DLC character. This is unconfirmed at the moment, however, evidence supporting Geno being added to Smash comes from the mouth of Sakurai when he stated, ““Geno was actually a character I wanted to include as a fighter,”. Unfortunately for Smash fans who love both Genesis 7 and Evo, the tournaments will be occurring on the same weekend. The Evo Tournament and the Genesis 7 Tournament will be taking place from January 24 through January 26 2020.
