Super Robot Wars V Announced, Will Be Available in English

On a Facebook post made by Bandai Namco, they announced that they would be releasing a new Super Robot Wars game, Super Robot Wars V. The game is set to be released sometime in 2017 for PS4 and PS Vita. The game was announced in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the series. The game will first be available in Japan and will be released sometime later with English subtitles. Bandai Namco also released a 9-minute teaser trailer video on their YouTube channel.

For those unaware, Super Robot Wars is a long running series of games from Japan that combine a number of popular mecha anime, manga, and video game characters. The series builds a world where this cavalcade of characters can join forces or battle one another. Although the series started on the Gameboy in 1991, it has expanded over the years and has been available on many a console. Unfortunately, due to licensing issues that are inherent to these kinds of mash up/cross over games, only 3 of the games in the series have previously been made available in the United States. These 3 games only had characters that were the IP of Banpresto, the developer of the game who is a subsidiary of Bandai Namco.

The gameplay for these games has been that of a tactical RPG. The game puts the player in different scenarios where they must complete various objectives. The combat in these scenarios is typical of this kind of RPG, characters taking turns to either move, attack, or use some other skill. As the player completes objectives more and more is revealed about the story activating dialogue between the varied cast of characters and the reasoning behind their presences on the battlefield.
