Super Mario Maker 2’s Final Update Allows Players to Build Entire Maps With Levels

Nintendo has announced that the next major, and sadly final update for Super Mario Maker 2 will be coming this Wednesday, April 22. Thankfully, it looks like Nintendo was saving their best patch for last, as this update adds a plethora of brand new items, features, and the ability to create an entire map with levels on it. Dubbed the World Maker, this will let you make fully realized maps with created levels that connect together in the same vein as Super Mario World.

You’ll be able to create up to 8 maps that can reach up to 40 levels as well as toad houses and warp pipes, which can then be shared for others to play their way through. In addition, the update will also add some new gameplay aspects from Super Mario Bros. 2. There’s a new mushroom that Mario can touch, which will change him into his Super Mario Bros. 2 pallet, color and all. His main attack, the jump, will change as well, as Mario will now stand on his enemies instead of crushing them. He can then pull them up and toss them around. This new ability also applies to items, making his transformation into his NES sequel counterpart complete.

The game will also be getting some new enemies for you to maneuver around. This includes Phanto from the aforementioned Super Mario Bros. 2, and from Super Mario World the Koopalings, essentially mini Bowsers that are insane, and Mechakoopas. On top of all this, the patch will also implement a ton of power-up suits. These include the Frog Suit from Super Mario Bros. 3, the Power Balloon from Super Mario World, the Super Acorn from Super Mario Bros. U, and the Boomerang Flower from Super Mario 3D Land.

Other new additions that can be put into levels are Cannon Box, Propeller Box, Red POW Box, Goomba Mask, and the Bullet Bill Mask which are all from Super Mario 3D World and can only be used as such. While we are a bit sad that this is the last major update for such a stellar Switch title, we’re also very excited to start building our own world map with our created levels. If this is Nintendo’s send off to Super Mario Maker 2, then they’re going out with a bang.

Super Mario Maker 2 is available now for the Nintendo Switch. The final major update will be free to download this Wednesday, April 22.
