Super Bowl 52 Patriots vs. Eagles: Madden Edition

With less than a week until the game, the official Madden NFL 18 Super Bowl Prediction has arrived. The CPU vs. CPU simulation of the big game pitted the virtual New England Patriots against the virtual Philadelphia Eagles.

In a tense game that runs down to the final drive, the Eagles just weren’t able to pull through, ending in a 24-20 victory for the Patriots. Though it is possible EA has embellished this ending a bit, given that for the last few years all of their predictions have been on the dramatic side.

Madden has a somewhat difficult history of successfully predicting the winners of this game every year, though their record is better than some might think. Since the simulation began in the 2004 season, Madden is 10-4 for predicting the winner of the game, and 9-5 against the point spread. The simulation once even predicted the exact final score, the 28-24 New England win over Seattle in 2015.

A Patriots win is also the antithesis of the well known “Madden Curse”, an urban legend which says that the player who graces the cover of the game each year is destined to have a terrible season. Leave it to Tom Brady to be untouched by a curse. This would be the 6th World Championship for Brady.

The real life Super Bowl airs February 4th at 6:30pm ET on NBC. You can check out the shortened Madden version below.
