It has been nearly twelve years since Metanet Software first released N++ to both positive reception from fans and critics alike. At the Summer Games Fest Day of the Devs Showcase, the newest title in the franchise was finally unveiled with the wildest name yet, N+∞×2 (N Plus Infinity Times Two). This time around it forgoes being a single player game and instead focuses on multiplayer with a frenetic party game atmosphere. At Summer Games Fest, we got to go hands on with the game, and, boy, was it a blast to play.
N+∞×2 features five different game types for players to enjoy with their friends with both local or online play. Of the five modes, we only got to check out two of them. The first one we got to check out was the classic Race mode where players try to reach the end goal of the level over three rounds on said level. You gain points depending on your placement as well as gain bonus points by collecting coins scattered throughout the level. There’s a catch though! While you get infinite respawns when everyone is trying to complete the level, once the first player finishes, all other players are immediately cut to one life. Thus, if you die after that, then that’s it for you that round. That’s not all though because when a player finishes, they shoot out and control a missile with the goal to eliminate the remaining players before they finish.
The second game mode we played was the Tag mode which separated the four players into two teams. One team are the Ninjas who must survive as long as possible while the other team, known as the Hunters, try to eliminate them. The two teams then compete in a best of three and swap roles between rounds. The Ninjas spawn first and have a second head start to try to get as much distance as possible as well as collect coins to increase their time. The Hunters spawn second, but, as the developers said, look like Super Saiyans and one touch from a Hunter eliminates the Ninjas. The Hunters also have the ability to turn into missiles, that can boost, at any time to try and get to the Ninjas even quicker!
Overall, N+∞×2 is a frenetic and fun multiplayer game that is sure to be a hilarious time for anyone that plays. With the series being known for having an absurd amount levels, and confirmation of a level editor, there will sure to be a plethora of unique experiences that will keep the players entertained for hours on end. N+∞×2 is set to release on all platforms in 2027.
