Summer Games Fest 2026: Annapurna’s Indie Lineup with Previews of Forever Ago, D-Topia, and Demi and the Fractured Dream

Annapurna Interactive is known for bringing attention to some of the most unique and interesting and emotional indie games out there. This year at Summer Games Fest, it was no different as they brought a unique lineup of three games for us to go hands on with. These ranged from a simple puzzle game to an Zelda like action game to an emotional tale of an old man reminiscing on his life. Thus, let’s dive into our thoughts on the three titles.

Demi and the Fractured Dream

First, we got to experience a brief demo for Demi and the Fractured Dream. This was a stylized action/adventure hack-and-slash game in the same spirit as The Legend of Zelda series. Our small slice of this game came with very little of the background story that the game is centered on. For those unfamiliar, this game focuses on main character Demi and a quest they were tasked with by a mysterious voice. Demi is a sword-wielding adventurer, and our demo showcased the main mechanics of the game’s combat.

Demi had regular base attack commands, and then specialized dash attacks and jump-and-splash attacks. This game balances between simple environment-based puzzles and combat. In this particular part of the game, Demi is on a sub question where a local village provided them with a large feather. The feather can be used as a tool creating large gusts of wind to move items across the room. The game is lushly designed and features a stylized animation palette, but this was a super short demo experience. Demi and the Fractured Dream is set to release in early 2027.

D-Topia

D-Topia is a cute little puzzle adventure game that we got to see while visiting Annapurna. The game sees you move to the titular D-Topia which is run by AI with the goal to maximize happiness for all those that live there. You play as a newcomer to D-Topia, and, in the short time we played, we saw his first day living there. He got ready for his day and then started his job at the factory. There is where we got to start doing puzzles which were very simple due to being the start of the game. You are able to skip puzzles at a press of a button as well as rewind moves easily. The eeriest thing about the game is the fact that there seems to be no individuality for the people that live in D-Topia. The character immediately loses their name and is just call 46 by the AI that run the city. Thus, the story could have a lot of intrigue depending on where it goes. D-Topia is set to release next month on July 14, 2026

Forever Ago

The last game we got to see was Third Shift’s Forever Ago. This narrative story game follows an old man named Alfred who is currently on a road trip and reminiscing on his life. This game immediately pulls on the heartstrings, and we could tell they this will be an emotional journey. The demo we played saw Alfred stop at a gas station he used to visit when he was younger to buy a few things. While there, he sees a photo of when he was younger with his then girlfriend and the gas station owner and demands to buy it from the station’s attendant. While looking at the photo we were transported back to 1977 when the young couple stopped at the gas station. When the young Alfred goes into the gas station, the game jumps us back to being old Alfred and we go through an eerie surreal area of a dark moment in his life.

What makes the game so emotional is the idea of being old and only having the memories of the past and the people that were in your life. Just from the short time we played it made me want to go hug my grandparents. Forever Ago is set to release later this year on October 8, 2026.
