Summer Games Fest 2023: Fae Farm Preview

Today was the last day of Summer Games Fest, and there was so much to see! Today we got to go hands on with a new cozy little farming sim in Fae Farm. This game can easily appeal to anyone of all ages as the simple gameplay and relaxing vibes of the game are totally enjoyable. The game can be played with up to 4 players online, but for our demo we played single player.

The main draw of the Fae Farm is the simple loop of finding materials to increase your health, stamina, mana or ability to build new items to fill your house and farm with new things. As aforementioned, the game is focused on cozy vibes, so there’s even a coziness menu which you want your houses and farm to be the coziest place it can be.

We got to explore the farm and do a variety of things like shearing a sheep or milking the cows. And, yes, you can pet your farm animals. You can also do things like fish. Then, you can go cook your fish or eat it raw. However, you can mix the fish with other ingredients to increase its effects or sale value. Then, you can mix that new item again to make a stew or something and increase its value even more.

There was also a dungeon that we got to explore mostly to gain more material to better your farm. Dungeons have 25 floors for players to explore with a boss at the end. However, according to the developer, bosses aren’t meant to be fought and they will make a request to the player to help them fix the chaos they’ve caused. Players won’t be able to complete a dungeon in a single day as once the game’s clock hits midnight, you are to returned to your house to go to sleep. You can stay out past midnight if you upgrade the right things.

There’s also plenty of romance with all NPCs being described as “playersexual,” so they will be attracted to you no matter how you identify in game. Plus, you have the ability to change your character at the magic mirror in your house at any time, so you can change up your look and identity whenever you’d like. NPCs can also be romanced by a single player, so when you play multiplayer it’s first come first serve when romancing NPCs.

Fae Farm is set to release on September 8, 2023 for PC and Nintendo Switch.
