Alongside the upcoming Warhammer game, Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive are working on another project: Toxic Commando. Announced during Summer Game Fest, a reveal trailer showcased the game’s horror FPS mechanics. The game will also be a co-op shooter which allows up to four players. While developing Toxic Commando, Focus and Saber will be collaborating with John Carpenter, an iconic horror filmmaker best known for The Thing and Halloween.
Focus Entertainment is eager about working with Saber Interactive once again. John Bert, Focus Managing Director, said, “After World War Z, Space Marine 2, Insurgency, SnowRunner, and many others, Toxic Commando is a new entry into the successful long-term relationship between Focus and Saber. We cannot wait to unveil more about this new amazing IP created by the talented teams at Saber, and leverage Focus’ expertise in turning new franchises into worldwide hits.”
Saber reciprocated this enthusiasm while lauding Carpenter’s involvement.
“We’re excited to partner with our friends at Focus again, and thrilled to collaborate with the legendary John Carpenter on this project. His unique vision, unparalleled expertise in storytelling, and ability to create immersive atmospheres have helped us to elevate this all-new, 80s-inspired experience to the next level. His works have been an inspiration for years and it’s an honor to work alongside him to deliver a truly unforgettable adventure,” Saber Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits stated.
As an avid video game admirer, Carpenter is also thrilled about producing Toxic Commando.
“It’s exciting to be collaborating on a new video game with Focus and Saber,” Carpenter commented. “Look, I really like shooting zombies. They keep telling me that they’re called ’the infected.’ Please. They’re ghouls, dude. They blow up real good and there are a ton of them. People are going to love this game.”
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando follows a band of mercenaries dubbed the Toxic Commandos as they fight hordes of mutated monsters threatening Earth. While not the best in the business, they’ve been hired to send the Sludge God and its army of abominable creatures back to the underworld. Players can choose from classes that fit their playstyle to better combat these forces; they can also employ a wide variety of weapons against the Sludge God’s forces.
Toxic Commando will launch in 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
