After many harrowing years for Amazon Games as an up-and-coming game development company, it seems some good news has finally come its way. After significantly postponing their huge MMORPG project, New World, the game’s closed beta has officially become one of the most successful game releases on Steam and brings high hopes for fans excited about Amazon Game’s new release.
New World is a multiplayer third-person shooter game set on the island of Aeternum, a magic-filled world that players must navigate through on epic quests in order to fulfill their destiny. After two postponements of the project in 2020, Amazon Games was finally able to release their massive MMORPG game for alpha testing earlier this year. On July 20th, New World began its closed beta, with close to 180,000 players online on a consistent basis. The closed beta’s success peaked on July 25th, when the game reached an all-time high of 200,856 concurrent players.
And New World’s success comes in more than just its player count. On Steam, the closed beta for New World is currently ranked sixth in terms of peak player count on SteamDB’s Most Played Games list. New World is also presently listed as SteamDB’s number one Top Trending game. As of now, it seems that Amazon Games may finally be able to let out a sigh of relief when it comes to New World.
Then again, maybe not. This incredible news for Amazon Games comes with the recent controversy about graphic card malfunctions while downloading and playing New World. Last week, fans were nervous about reports of New World bricking Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics cards while trying to access the game. Upon hearing this concern from fans, Amazon Games released an announcement stating that they have seen no consistent issues with Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics cards within the confines of playing New World. EVGA has also announced that they will replace any Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics cards that have reportedly been bricked as a result of accessing New World’s closed beta.
