Styx Studio Announces a Brand New IP Called Rogue Lords, Launches This Fall

In a joint press announcement, Publisher Nacon along with Cyanide Studio and Leikir Studio have revealed a brand new IP titled Rogue LordsAccording to the release, the game is a new rogue-like title that is being co-developed between Cyanide and Leikir, and will take place in the dark and murky 17th century New England. Demons and humans will live in the same world, and in a twist of fate, you’ll be playing as the villain.

You’ll take on the role as the Devil, which is already a huge difference in how most games protagonist, or antagonist in this case, start out. After being weakened in a huge loss, you’ll be seeking to regain your powers. The main goal as the Devil is to spread chaos and discord throughout the world, and you’ll be able to achieve this thanks to a special team of villainous staples called the Disciples of Evil. This includes Dracula, Bloody Mary, The White Lady, and Baron Samedi. You’ll be able to explore the world thanks to a 3D map, giving you the ability to pick and chose where to exude your evil aura among the populace.

As the Devil, you’ll also be able to interact with other characters, and send out your evil cronies to combat the forces of good in a turn-based style combat mechanic. The difficulty will also be ramped up, which includes the parameters of losing all of your villains, and getting a Game Over. In the press release, it states that if this happens then “the player then loses all character progress and has to start a new run.” If you’re in the mood for a risk everything type game, then look no further than Rogue Lords.

As for the people behind it, Leikier is a bit unknown, although it states in the release that they have assisted in PC and console game development. Cyanide on the other hand is most famous for creating the stealth spin-off series from the Orcs and Humans franchise, Styx. The studio has made two games thus far, Styx: Master of Shadows and Styx: Shards of DarknessWhile both titles were somewhat mixed in their reception, the series had garnered a cult following of dedicated fans. They’ve also developed Call of Cthulhu, which came out late in 2018.

While this is an exciting announcement, all we have so far is a press release and a promotional image. Since the release states that it’s launching in the Fall, it’s more than likely that we’ll hear more about this title leading up to E3, and afterwards as well. Hopefully we’ll see a trailer or two soon. Rogue Lords is scheduled to launch in 2020 this Fall for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
