It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of new fighting games that have come out recently, and are coming out on the horizon like Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8, and Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. It’s hard to believe that there was a time when there was only one undisputed king of the fighting game scene: Capcom’s very own Street Fighter 4. Well now iPhone and Android users can experience the miracle game that revived an entire genre through their phones, as Street Fighter 4: Champion Edition is now available on both Google and Apple playstores.
Test your mettle on the go in Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store at a discounted price until January 17!

The game is a pretty solid port of the old 2008 classic, with 32 characters from Street Fighter 4’s expansive roster as well as limited, but still very fun, movesets and multiplayer against players all across the world on wifi. This isn’t the first time Street Fighter 4 has been ported to mobile, but this time the technology has definitely been refined from what was previously available.
As stated, Street Fighter 4 is fighting game history. Whether you love the game or don’t care for it, it’s undeniable that its release in 2008 was the spark that ignited the fire that still burns in the fighting game community today, after a decade long drought of 2D fighting games the genre was presumed dead in the water until Street Fighter 4 arrived on the scene.
It’s great to see that Capcom is promoting this game onto mobile ports so that players who weren’t around for the game’s heyday can still experience it to some degree against other players across the world. And with the recent news that Capcom is porting, of all things, the recent Resident Evil 4: Remake to Apple products it really seems like Capcom’s mobile division has been putting in some overtime as of late, and I’m sure mobile players will greatly appreciate their efforts.
