Celebrity cameos in fighting games seem to be on the rise, huh? Though unlike an actual celebrity appearance in the playable roster, Capcom mercifully decided that Street Fighter 6 should instead opt for a bonus costume for one of the playable characters and thus, we have a Juri outfit inspired by K-pop band Aespa.

This is a pretty in-touch collaboration for Capcom, it’s not an actually celebrity hogging an important character slot, and it’s coming in the form of a new costume which, for Street Fighter 6, usually only comes once every 2 years or so so that’s a treat. Aespa is obviously also pretty popular, and giving the costume to Juri, the South Korean rep of Street Fighter’s World Warriors, is the clear choice. Sadly, this does come at the cost of Juri probably not getting a summer themed costume and, for Juri players, this costume will put shoes on her and thus make it unplayable for the vast majority of them.

This collab will also come with its own Battle Hub themed event as well as some accessories for your Avatar and their phone. No doubt Street Fighter 6’s customizable soundtrack will also feature one or maybe more Aespa songs, probably at least “Whiplash” which played during the above trailer and served as the inspiration for Juri’s costume and the entire collab.

Also featured in the trailer is Naevis, a virtual idol that first appeared with Aespa. Naevis will take the role of commentator for Street Fighter 6, something most players forget exist, but maybe this new content will encourage them to at least try it out.

Whether you’re a fan of Aespa or not, you have to agree that more actual content is not a bad thing for Street Fighter 6, which has had a bit of a drought in that department for a while now. Between this Juri costume and the summer beach costumes coming for a few of the other characters maybe we’ll see some more cool options for the game.
