The hits just keep on coming, Capcom’s flagship fighting game Street Fighter 6 is nearing the release of the master of fist Akuma and with him the much anticipated Season 2. We covered the Season 2 balance changes yesterday, but it seems as though Capcom isn’t done giving us a preview of what to expect come May 22nd. Earlier today they released a trailer featuring the last of the third costumes for the Season 1 DLC characters Rashid, AKI, Ed, and Akuma himself.
As shown, the costumes are a welcome change to these characters. Rashid’s third costume is a reference to his Street Fighter 5 soccer (or football if you’re European) outfit which was seen as the go-to costume for the Rashid players during 5’s era. AKI’s costume is completely original, as she is an original Street Fighter 6 character, however, it seems to take a few notes from her mentor FANG, including the very foreboding giant round sunglasses; indeed AKI really looks like she could be a villainous assassin in a summer blockbuster. Ed’s costume is a direct callback to his default costume in Street Fighter 5, which wasn’t very well received, however the addition of the coat seems to really complete his look and the costume was requested as soon as the World Tour story art of it was shown. Akuma’s costume seems to be an original, hearkening to his title as “demon”, he wears an oni mask and bares it all to the world, not even bothering to wear a shirt here.
All in all, the costumes themselves are nice, though time will tell if the prices are. With luck Capcom will be doubling down on the costumes, many in the playerbase feel that a lack of costumes or really any content whatsoever regarding non-Avatar features have put a damper on Street Fighter 6, so hopefully these won’t be the last costumes in a while and we’ll be seeing some new ones for the whole cast before the year’s out.
