Street Fighter 6 Producer Shuhei Matsumoto Says Capcom is Ready and Willing to Make More Crossover Games

Fighting game players from Capcom’s previous golden age are likely familiar with their insane output of fighting games featuring casts from various Capcom IPs duking it out with other universes, just a few examples being Capcom vs. SNK, SNK vs. Capcom, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and of course the ever popular Marvel vs. Capcom. However, despite Capcom’s recent upswings it was thought this era of crossovers was long gone, the last of which being 2017’s Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, which didn’t go over so well. However, as learned in recent interview with Shuhei Matsumoto conducted by Dexerto, it looks like the future of Capcom may not be so crossover averse after all.

The development team at Capcom has big dreams…Maybe there is an opportunity for a new Marvel vs Capcom game. Maybe there is an opportunity for a new Capcom-based SNK game.

I don’t know. But, if that were to happen, that would take some time and effort in order create and release those kinds of games, but the short-term with what we can do now is at least reintroduce these past legacy games to a new audience, to people who may not have the opportunity to play it, because it might not be out on modern or current platforms.

While there are no current projects in the works for a future Vs. title featuring Capcom, Mr. Matsumoto has is open to another collaboration, and with Marvel being more open to entering the video game sphere, with the release of Marvel Rivals on the horizon, things could maybe moving in the direction for Marvel vs. Capcom 4 soon.

Not to mention, this is a weirdly exciting time for fans of Capcom’s crossover titles, as SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos was recently re-released on Steam, and the entirety of Capcom’s Marvel crossover titles being ported to Steam later this year as part of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, both with rollback support meaning the online will be incredibly stable, this could mean that Capcom is looking to gauge the interest in more crossover titles in the future.

I love video games and video game culture, as far back as I can remember I've not only played them, I've actively participated in their communities. I hope my history in this hobby and my enthusiasm for writing helps me convey news to you accurately and succinctly.
