Stranger Things to Return to Dead By Daylight

November 6 is widely considered to be Stranger Things Day by fans of the Netflix television series, in honor of the day when Will Byers went missing in the Upside Down. In celebration, Dead By Daylight announced that their old friends would be returning to the realm of The Fog.

Stranger Things first came to the multiplayer asymmetrical horror game as a DLC in September 2019. Although crossovers are no stranger to Dead By Daylight, as evidenced since Ellen Ripley can be chased by Michael Myers, the 2016 series was an unexpected newer license to obtain. Still, it was beloved by both fans of the game and show. Survivors Steve Harrington, Nancy Wheeler, and killer Demogorgon were all playable upon original launch, with Jonathan Byers being added as an alternate skin for Steve in June 2021. The license was abruptly pulled just a few months after Jonathan’s release in November 2021.

Leading up to the official removal of the DLC, skins for all three characters and the DLC itself were all discounted for purchase. Afterwards, it was permanently removed from all digital stores. Those who missed out on buying it would either have to try their luck with resellers who sold keys at extreme upcharges, or hoping to find a physical copy of the console edition with the DLC code intact. As just announced on November 7, 2023, those who originally were unable to experience the Stranger Things fun will have another chance to purchase the characters, as well as play on the Hawkins Laboratory map that was also removed.

Behaviour’s head of partnerships, Mathieu Côté, shared the studio’s excitement in his statement:

“We’re thrilled to renew this collaboration with Netflix, to bring back the Stranger Things Chapter, including the Underground Complex Map from the Hawkins National Laboratory, and the iconic Survivor duo composed of Nancy Wheeler, a tough aspiring journalist, and Steve Harrington, a former high school jock with a knack for finding trouble. We hope players who didn’t get to experience Stranger Things will take full advantage of this gaming experience today.”
