Story trailers can have a wide array of subject matter, from mentioning overall plot themes to giving details about the ending of the story. In the case of the upcoming Stranger Than Heaven by Sega, the latest story trailer gives players a look into the story of the game’s first act. While this trailer doesn’t give away much of where the main character is going to end up due to the game being divided into five parts, it does give players a sense of where his journey begins and the type of challenges he will face in his earliest moments in Japan.
The trailer begins at sea, where it introduces the main character, Makoto Daito, meeting a fellow stowaway, Yu Shinjo, as they are being discovered during a shipment in 1915. The story hints at the troubles both have faced during their time in America, while making ominous allusion to the different struggles they can expect when the ship reaches its destination of Japan.
Their arrival in Kokura, Japan marks the halfway mark in the trailer. There, the struggles hinted at become evident as the Makoto is harassed and assaulted by both citizens and officers as he tries to make his way through the area. He is recruited into a group called Yashima where he learns to fight and combat begins. From there, the trailer moves into isolated moments from the first act, including a lesson in a culture of respect, a talk with a woman who appreciates his eyes, and a later talk with the ship’s captain from the trailer’s beginning who encourages Makoto to make a song based on his experiences.
The trailer ends with the main character affirming that he is looking for place of his own. The trailer leaves any events further into the game a mystery, letting potential players speculate over where the story will go when the game releases on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam on January 14th 2027.
