After its release in July, EarthBound jumped up to the third spot in bestselling games on Nintendo’s Wii U eShop. Despite this, Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo of America still says that the company has no new ideas or thinking in regards to a release of EarthBound’s sequel, Mother 3.
Fils-Aime says that the release of EarthBound on the eShop was expected to have a huge response, and it came as no surprise to Nintendo. Fils-Aime also says that the company is always looking into the past to consider older games that can be re-released to make them available for gamers again. But, despite the success of the re-release for EarthBound, Fils-Aime says there is no new development on the frontier of a re-release for Mother 3.
Many fans were hoping that after the success of EarthBound in July a release of Mother 3 would be the next step in the franchise for Nintendo. But, at least for now it seems that Nintendo is focusing elsewhere.
A continued hope for the release might not be misplaced, but a release anytime soon on the eShop simply does not seem to be a likely move for Nintendo.
