Stefan Heikhaus Has Been Appointed as the New Director for Gamescom

The German Games Industry Association has appointed brand new Director for their annual Gamescom event. Stefan Heikhaus will now take up the mantle of being in charge of one of Europe’s most popular video game conventions and succeeds Christian Baur who departed the role at the end of last month at his own request. From the middle of next month all the way until the event itself in 2024, Heikhaus will be organizing and continuing the development of Gamescom, as well as its satellite events including Gamescom Asia and Gamescom LAN.

In a statement, Heikhaus said that he’s “very excited” about becoming the new Director for Gamescom, and looks forward to keeping the event going with new and interesting ideas. “Gamescom does more than set new standards for the dynamic games industry again and again – it’s also an outstanding event format that is closely followed by other industries around the globe,” he said. Prior to his appointment, Heikhaus was a marketing specialist within the video game industry. He has worked with many major companies, such as Ubisoft and Sony, while also applying his trade with other technological giants including Microsoft and Cisco.

As we mentioned earlier, Gamescom is essentially Europe’s biggest video game event of the year. The first event took place in 2009 and has since become one of the most anticipated weekends for the entire continent. It has often been compared to the United States’ E3, before its current predicament, with a plethora of people traveling from all over the world to Cologne, Germany for the event.
