Steamworld Collection Releasing on PS4 and Wii U

According to gematsu, publisher Rising Star Games is releasing SteamWorld Dig and SteamWorld Heist on retail with a compilation disc for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Wii U. The two games were developed by Image and Form. They’re part of a series that includes titles such as SteamWorld Tower Defense and the upcoming SteamWorld Quest. Image and Form also sent out a tweet announcing the collection’s release.

SteamWorld Dig is a platforming mining game with metroidvania elements. Players take on the role of Rusty, a mining robot who arrives at an old mining town that needs his assistance. While digging through the mines, Rusty will have to stave off the threats that dwell below. The game also sports a mix of Steampunk and Western aesthetic.

SteamWorld Heist is a strategy game with tactical shootouts. Players take on the role of a captain of a space crew taking on other spaceships . Unlike most strategy games, players can manually aim the guns of their robots. Levels are also
procedurally generated.

At Gamescom 2016, gamereactor talked to Image & Form’s Brjann Sigurgeirsson about the SteamWorld Collection. According to Sigurgeirsson, this is the first game the company has worked on to receive a release on a Nintendo platform. In a quote below, he also mentioned how these games would finally be available to customers who prefer physical copies:

We just made sure that it’s coming out worldwide for Wii U and in the process, since we were making the product anyway, we decided to do a physical launch of a PlayStation 4 version of the Collection as well. So Steamworld Dig and Steamworld Heist [are] coming at a fantastic price to customers of physical games.

The SteamWorld Collection will be released to retail for PlayStation 4 and Wii U in the United States, Canada, and South America on October.
