State of Play September 2026: Maneater 2 Announcement Trailer

Sony’s State of Play is always a mystery, as you never know what to expect for the future of PlayStation. And one game that is honestly a pleasant surprise is Maneater 2, a sequel to Maneater, the game that allows you to be a shark and terrorize both land and sea. And this time the game is being developed by both Tripwire Interactive and Demiurge Studios in a team-up to create, in their own words, “the Next Evolution of the Critically Acclaimed Open-water Action-RPG Starring a Shark.” The game is set to release in 2027 and will be available for PlayStation, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Wishlists are available for your preferred platform.

Maneater 2 is a sequel to the 2020 game Maneater, where you played as a shark and wreaked havoc on both land and sea, and now it’s back better than ever. This time, players will be brought to the depths of Neptune’s Kingdom, a five-star luxury theme park and resort where the splendor and opulence of the Roman Empire live on. With a new location, there are all-new things to do, such as EAT: Dominate the top of the food chain and gorge on the five-star global cuisine in Neptune’s Kingdom. Devour both humans and sea creatures as Neptune’s Kingdom offers up new fish to enjoy. Explore: The world is your oyster; take in the architecture, make a killing on the rides, and uncover the secrets buried underwater. Evolve: Marine research and conservation efforts at Neptune’s Kingdom aren’t just a great corporate tax break; they’re good for other things as well. With five different genetic modifications, your shark will truly go beyond that of a great white. Escape: Behind Neptune’s Kingdom’s lavish facade is a disaster waiting to happen. It’s time to tip the scales back in nature’s favorMake a grand escape from both corporate greed and scientific malpractices, along with one-sided commentary from disgraced reality TV host Trip Westhaven.

Along with this announcement, the CEOs of both Tripwire and Demiurge commented in a press release on their partnership to create this game, which will leverage the creativity, expertise, and technological know-how of both groups to take Maneater 2 to the next level.

The incredible response we received to Maneater has always made it clear that players are hungry for more, and we’ve been looking forward to the opportunity to deliver a true sequel,” said Matt LoPilato, CEO at Tripwire. “We’re thrilled to be working alongside our friends at Demiurge to bring the next chapter in the series to life with Maneater 2, and we can’t wait to share more about our plans for the franchise in the months ahead.”

“We’re huge fans of Maneater here at Demiurge, and we’re incredibly excited to sink our teeth into this project with the team at Tripwire,” noted Kurt Reiner, CEO at Demiurge. “The original game did an amazing job of letting gamers live out the power fantasy of ruling open waters as an apex predator, and we’re ready to help take that experience to the next level in Maneater 2.”

Maneater 2 is set to release in 2027 and will be available for PlayStation, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Wishlists are available for your preferred platform.
