Sega has revealed Sonic X Shadow Generations, a remaster of 2011’s Sonic Generations which includes a brand new story campaign centered around Shadow, during PlayStation’s January 2024 State of Play. The game is set to release this Fall.
The trailer for the game shows off remastered gameplay from the original Sonic Generations, along with completely new gameplay featuring Shadow the Hedgehog, in which he battles various enemies from his past games (without the aid of a gun this time around).
According to the press release for the game, “Sonic X Shadow Generations introduces a brand-new Shadow story campaign where his old nemesis, Black Doom, returns and threatens to take over the world. Fans can play as Shadow and dive into his dark past to unlock his inner powers, explore his backstory, and confront familiar foes to save the world and prove why he’s known as the Ultimate Life Form!”
The game also contains a full remastered version of the original Sonic Generations, which blends the 2D and 3D eras of the franchise. “The story centers around Sonic and friends as their universe is thrown into chaos when a new threat appears, taking them on a journey through time and dimensions,” the press release says. “Players can experience this adventure again with upgraded visuals, new challenges, and more bonus content!”
To celebrate the announcement, a Shadow costume will be added to Sonic Superstars on Feb. 15. The costume will be free for all players, and can be used in the game’s story mode.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is set to release in Fall 2024, and will be available for the PlayStation 5 , PlayStation4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
