Star Wars: The High Republic May Get a VR Release

A little less than a week ago, Lucasfilms revealed that Project Luminous would start brand new era in the Star Wars universe, also known as The High Republic In the recent news of Disney announcing this new Star Wars era would take place 400 to 1000 years before The Phantom Menace. Because of this new Star Wars storyline, that could also be full of possible storytelling material, a possible video game tie-in is almost inevitable. This is not the first time since Star Wars has tried their hand in the world of VR, with the popular Vader Immortal game that spurred mixed reviews from players.

While no word on what kind of video game this High Republic adaptation would be, nor a word on who exactly would be developing it, this untitled game is almost guaranteed to become a VR project with how well the sales for Vader Immortal went. While Vader Immortal is not a traditional video game, it does allow players to journey through a three-episode storyline (similar to The Walking Dead TellTale and Batman TellTale) and come face to face with Star Wars’ most iconic villain, Darth Vader. Despite this lack of control in Vader Immortal, fans did enjoy playing around in the lightsaber dojo, a simulation that allowed them to interact and practice with the most iconic weapons of the franchise and facing off with Darth Vader in the end.

With the rise of certain VR titles such as Half-Life: Alyx, and other VR story centered games, a full immersion Jedi-based game would financially be the next step for any Star Wars video game in the upcoming future. Even with the success of Vader Immortal, an expectation for more freedom in a Star Wars game is likely to be expected, rather than just sticking to one path with no room for branching out and change. With the introduction of the New Republic, this creative liberty would give fans the chance to explore new aspects such as different well-known planets find their niche in a new faction, and creatures to add to their Star Wars knowledge.
