Star Wars Republic Commando coming to PS4 and Switch

Today it was announced that Star Wars: Republic Commando will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on April 6. The game was originally released back in 2005 for the original Xbox. This port is being driven by game publisher Aspyr, the same one that is also behind the upcoming port of Stubbs the Zombie. The game will mostly be a port of the original but with updated controls for both the DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers.

In Star Wars: Republic Commando you play as “Boss” the leader of Delta Squad, an elite squad of Republic commandos during the events of the Clone Wars. The game is a first-person shooter with an emphasis on tactical combat. Players can order the three other members of their squad in order to secure positions or provide tactical advantages. During missions, players visit a variety of locations from the Star Wars universe such as Kashyyyk, Geonosis, and the spaceship Prosecutor.

One major feature of the original release that will most likely be absent in the new port, is cooperative multiplayer. In the original, instead of relying solely on quick commands, up to three friends could control your NPC squadmates. However, due to Aspyr referring to the game as being brought back as a single-player experience with modernized controls, the game will most likely not feature any sort of cooperative multiplayer.

Star Wars: Republic Commando will be available on both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on April 6 for $14.99 USD. Nintendo Switch owners are able to preorder the game now on the Nintendo eShop. The game is also already available on Xbox through backwards compatibility and on PC through Steam.
