‘Star Trek: Bridge Crew’ Gets New Update, No Longer Requires VR to Play

Ubisoft has announced that Star Trek: Bridge Crew, an action-adventure RPG released earlier this year that was originally designed for VR; previously, a Vive, Rift, or PlayStation VR headset was needed to play the game. Through the latest patch, VR is no longer a mandatory component of gameplay. Bridge Crew‘s update launched this week, and the game can now be played normally on both PC and PlayStation 4 platforms as well.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew challenges four players to work together to pilot a Federation starship through dangerous missions,” Ubisoft wrote in their news column. “Using a controller or a mouse and keyboard, players with and without VR headsets can be seamlessly matched together to pilot the U.S.S. Aegis (or U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701) as Starfleet officers or play alone as captain.”

The patch brought a couple of other noticeable additions to Bridge Crew, including some graphical enhancements to accommodate new players experiencing the non-VR version of the game.  “The update also includes enhanced Windows Mixed Reality support, adding more options for players to explore uncharted space,” Ubisoft added. Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
