Star Treck: Bridge Crew Delayed Again, This Time Until May 30th

Ubisoft’s Star Trek Virtual Reality game has been delayed yet again as the developer announced the news earlier yesterday morning. Having already been delayed and expected to be released in March, pushing it back two more months is a little bit of a let down for Playstation and PC gamers wanting to utilize their new virtual reality headsets.

When Star Trek: Bridge Crew arrives on VR platforms, it’ll present players with the opportunity to explore the Star Trek universe from the simulated bridge of a Federation starship, in virtual reality. Better still, you’ll now get to choose which starship you inhabit: In addition to the previously revealed U.S.S. Aegis, a ship created just for the game, you also have the option to serve on Star Trek: The Original Series’ version of the U.S.S. Enterprise, either as a solo captain or as an officer in a crew of up to four players.

With no explanation as to why the game was being pushed back, the Ubisoft Blog failed to even acknowledge that the game wouldn’t see a March release date any longer. The only thing they said about the release date was the fact that it would arrive on May 30th. The main premise of the blog itself was to inform the reader that the game would now include the original crew of The Enterprise.

In the blog post, David Votypka, the senior creative director at Red Storm Entertainment, gave his thoughts on why they wanted to include the original crew in the virtual reality exploration game. “The adventures and relationships that took place on the ship are a special part of Star Trek history, so we were determined to give players the opportunity to create their own adventures and stories on this classic ship.”

The game itself was developed in close contact with CBS as they own the rights to the Star Trek franchise. Players who wish to pilot the original Enterprise will be able to do so by going into the games “Ongoing Voyages” mode. In this mode players will even have the option to play procedurally generated missions either by themselves or co-op. Players will also be able to use the following headsets to play the game, PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift.
