Just today, developer and publisher GSC Game World have announced that they have been working on and developing a new Enhanced Edition for their trilogy S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Legends of the Zone. The Enhanced Edition trilogy consists of Shadow of Chornobyl (2007), Clear Sky (2008), and Call of Prypiat (2009) that were made in the early 2000s, and the new edition will be released on May 20th of this year for PC and console such as the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch. The trilogy bundle will cost $39.99 USD and $19.99 per title in the trilogy.
The trailer shows the brand new visuals that the developers have fixed with the latest hardware and technology. Not only will there be updated visuals for the trilogy, but there will also be next-gen console optimizers as well as expanded mod support. Players who already own the trilogy on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, or on PC will receive the Enhanced Edition for free, and new players who purchase the Enhanced Edition will also receive a copy of the original games.
There will also be special fixes for console and for PC as well as fixes for both platforms according to an article on GamesPress. As for both platforms, there will be enhanced lighting with godrays, space reflections, and global illumination. There will also be upscaled textures and detailed 3D models for different weapons, NPCs, and also the environments. There will be enhanced shaders for water and wetness effects along with upgraded skyboxes. Lastly for both platforms there will be 4K pre-rendered cinematics to improve storytelling and to improve weapon FOV for a better combat experience.
For consoles, there will be upgraded quality, balance, and performance in said quality. For the Xbox Series S in particular, there will be upgraded visuals and quality as well, but different FPS numbers. Keyboard and mouse will also be available for console players on PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series. Lastly, there will be Mod.io Integration and players will be able to share mods on both PC and console platforms.
For PC players, players will be able to play the game on Steam Deck. There will also be Steam Workshop Integration where players can access a library of user-generated mods, and also Cloud Saves where players can have progress backups across devices. Lastly there will be Gamepad support, so players can play the game with controller through PC.
