At last night’s Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV event at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Square Enix and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment revealed Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, a “fully CG animated movie” slated to premiere this fall. The movie, which, according to its website, will be released for “Blu-Ray and Digital,” is intended to serve as a “cross-media collaboration” with Final Fantasy XV, which will be released on September 30th.
Kingsglaive stars Sean Bean as King Regis, Lena Headey as Princess Luna, and Aaron Paul as Kingsglaive soldier Nyx. Below is the official teaser trailer.
The movie is the first of several large-scale projects intended to “compose the grand Final Fantasy XV universe” that will be released “around the same timeframe.” According to their press release, Kingsglaive will tell the story of King Regis of Lucis, as he battles the menacing empire of Nilfheim with an elite force of soldiers dubbed the Kingsglaive.
Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV will be an anime series composed of 5 standalone episodes focusing on crown prince Noctis, son of Regis, and his three companions, which will “[set] the stage for the adventures players will set out upon” in FFXV. The first episode is already on YouTube, and the entire series will be free.
Last but not least is Platinum Demo – Final Fantasy XV, a free-to-download demo with a unique storyline that “whisks players away to a fragmented dreamscape of Noctis as a child.” In order to “overcome the many monsters within this fantastical dream world,” Noctis is accompanied by a magical guide named Carbuncle – players who complete the demo will unlock an exclusive Carbuncle summon DLC for the full game at launch. The demo is currently available for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
Overall, Square Enix seems to be placing a lot of chips on Final Fantasy XV, and the cross-media campaign hints we’re in for an epic gaming experience come this fall.
