Square Enix has released a teaser trailer for a yet to be announced new RPG game. Not much is known about this new upcoming RPG. The full announcement of the game will take place on August 1st, this will mark the official first reveal of this new RPG. The teaser trailer for this new Square Enix RPG can be viewed below.
The trailer does not provide much information other than the name of the game, which is Kamitsuri. The constant emphasis that this is a “dramatic RPG” makes sense after viewing the trailer. The aesthetic of the game seems to suggest a lighter hearted or even comedic nature to this game. An example of this is the inclusion of what appears to be a sidekick character in a monkey costume. It appears that in reality this is not the case. Based on the trailer, the two characters shown most prominently seem to be the protagonists of the story. These two characters have strikingly contrasting color schemes, one being blue, white and gray and the other being red, black, purple. These colors in most character designs tend to indicate a more traditionally heroic character in a leadership role versus one that has more antihero, rebellious, or even possibly villainous qualities, respectively. Other characters shown include the aforementioned monkey suit character, a fairy looking character, and a noble looking swords man.
Another impression based solely on the art style is that this game will take place in some kind of alternate reality/high fantasy feudal Japan. This is based on the appearance of the character costumes as well as feudal Japan usually serving as the high fantasy setting in Japanese media, much like Medieval Europe tends to serve as the setting in Western high fantasy.
Kamitsuri will be officially announced by Square Enix on August 1st and until then the visual information in the trailer is up to speculation.
