Square Enix Plans to Announce Several Games This Summer

During their most recent stockholder meeting (as translated by Gematsu and originally posted by No Investment No Life), Square Enix plans to announce and release multiple games from the duration of early July to late August. When asked the question of how would they reveal these games since E3 for this year (and the digital E3 event) were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the company responded,

We would normally announce new games at E3, yes. We had planned to do a press conference as a replacement event but were unable to do so since assets were not complete. We’ll be announcing new titles individually as the timing permits. Several will debut around July to August.

Since the cancellation of these events, Square Enix has found different ways to reveal their future content. Most recently they revealed an upcoming game titled Project Athia at the PlayStation 5 reveal event. Soon after that, the development studio earned high ratings and high praise for fans following the of the remake for Final Fantasy VII as well. As of now though (besides the trailer shown at aforementioned reveal event), there is not much information about Project Athia due to the fact that it’s still in early developmental phases. Along with Square Enix, Koei Tecmo was also planning to showcase their newest game (an RPG styled after the popular anime/manga Fairy Tail), but was forced to reveal and release it at another time due to the limitations of the pandemic.

One game already announced and still being worked on for Square Enix includes Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory and is described as rhythm like music title. So far, this Kingdom Hearts installment has already been confirmed for a release in the west, soon to be arriving on people’s Nintendo Switches. Also, the company revealed that the gameplay footage for Marvel’s Avengers would be available to live stream on Wednesday as well.
