Square Enix Has Revealed New DLC Coming to Final Fantasy XV During PAX East: 2018

During a panel at PAX East: 2018 earlier today, Square Enix confirmed that four new DLC episodes will be coming to Final Fantasy XV next year. The team detailed an expected release date, what to expect from each, and how they serve as an alternate ending to the game.

The four episodes as a whole will being portraying the alternate grand finale of the game’s story. Square Enix promises that they will unfold a story that depicts a future that everyone has longed for regarding each of the four featured characters. During the first episode, the focus will be on Ardyn, and is currently tentatively titled The Conflict of the Sage. This episode will detail the struggles Ardyn finds himself tied to, and the emotional toll it takes on those around him. The resentment that has been brewing between he and Lucis for the past two centuries will be witnessed, and his clash with Astrals will be tackled. One of the four episodes will feature a side story that focuses entirely on Aranea Highwind of Niflheim Empire. The Starscourage disease will be delved into, and the final days of the Empire will be emulated to depict one of Aranea’s worst days. What’s being branded as the second full episode, but third episode entirely, lets players take on the role of Lunafreya. In this story called The Choice of Freedom, players unravel Lunafreya’s fate, and the path that has her doomed. While she battles with the intention of saving the ones she loves, her path muddies the destiny presupposed by the Lucian King. The DLC’s final episode focuses on Noctis, and is appropriately called The Final Strike. Here, Noctis will being parting ways with the Astrals, and begin a journey that will include his final battle. His legacy is set to attain an ideal future for all of his people, and will risk death to maintain the possibility.

Square Enix has stated that they will continue to provide more details regarding this DLC later in the year. Currently, the release date is set to 2019, and will contain a new theme by composer Yoko Shimomura.
