Arena shooter game Splitgate has seen major increase in player base in the last few weeks because of the open beta available on consoles. The game has been described as Halo meets Portal, making the sudden popularity boost not unsurprising, but still unexpected for a small studio like 1047 Games. Because of this increase, the developing company has announced that the release of the finished game will be delayed. The original launch date was July 27, but was moved to a later date in August due to the surge, and now is delayed indefinitely. The company has stated that the delay is to account for increased stability in the game for larger amounts of people and larger server capacities.
The beta is still available to play, and the battle pass for it runs until August 24th. There should be more news at that time, as Splitgate news is already scheduled to be a part of Gamescom, a European video game trade fair that occurs on August 25th. Currently, according to the Splitgate server update Twitter, the capacity for the beta continues to be stable and queueing issues are not a problem.
The Splitgate team remains optimistic for the release of the game, and is viewing the delay as a necessary step towards a successful game. All of the problems that happen now will not happen when the game is officially launched and can service all the players that want to experience Splitgate.
