It’s been a while since we heard anything concrete in regards to Nintendo’s upcoming Splatoon 3. The company gave us a nice update last September, but they’ve been fairly quiet since, until now. The company has broken their silence with arguably the best news so far, an official release date! Splatoon 3 will officially launch later this year on September 9 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, just in time for the end of Summer.
Nintendo also released a new trailer that shows us the 4v4 Turf War multiplayer mode on a brand new map dubbed Eeltail Alley. As with the previous two entries, the game is an over the shoulder third-person shooter with players shooting colored ink out of an ink gun with the goal to fire upon opposing players and eventually covering the entire map with your teams colors. On top of that, Splatoon 3 will also include Salmon Run, which is a special Horde-type mode that has players join an agent and fight against the Octarians while discovering the secrets of a place called “Alterna and the Fuzzy Ooze.”
As if this all wasn’t enough, Nintendo also revealed that those who are subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will get the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion for free starting today. This DLC pack adds an additional 80 missions to Splatoon 2, which launched the same year as the Nintendo Switch. This is more than likely something to hold over the fan base as they await the aforementioned announced date for Splatoon 3. Either way, it’s an excellent welcome for those who play online with the Switch and an even bigger reason to get ready for one of Nintendo’s most anticipated titles of 2022.
Splatoon 3 will officially launch on September 9, 2022, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
