Splash Damage Announces AAA Open-World Survival Game

After developing multiplayer first-person shooters for iconic IPs like Wolfenstein and Quake, this developer will approach this genre through their new inventive project.

On March 16th, United Kingdom-based game developer Splash Damage announced Project Astrid, an open-world survival game being produced alongside UK gaming creators Sacriel and Shroud, who’ve both been named executive creators for the game. This will be Splash Damage’s first original IP, with Sacriel and Shroud’s involvement bringing a distinctive player perspective into development.

Chris “Sacriel” Ball has expressed excitement about this project. He said, “This is a dream come true. Mike and I have been envisioning a world where we help build the game that streamers and gamers love playing. To be able to execute with a team as esteemed and experienced as Splash Damage is a privilege. In our work together to date, it is clear that we are truly part of the team and are well-positioned to help bring this dream to reality.”

Mike “Shroud” Grzeseik shares Sacriel’s passion. He stated, “This project means everything to me. Chris and I have refined a vision for what’s next in the survival genre and with Splash Damage we’re setting out to build it. We want to build the best survival game ever, and with Sacriel’s brain and Splash Damage’s team, I know we can do it.”

The development team is also enthusiastic about this collaboration. Creative Director Lance Winter commented, “Sacriel and Shroud are core members of our development team, bringing with them a unique and fresh perspective. Not only that, but they’re providing us brand new insights into what fans and creators actually want from their gaming experiences. No one knows this genre better than they do.”

At the moment, Project Astrid‘s gameplay and release window remains unknown. Additional information will be revealed across Splash Damage’s social platforms and newsletter.
