Last week, Crystal Dynamics had their second War Table livestream for their upcoming game, Marvel’s Avengers. During the livestream, the developers shared a first look at what to expect for the upcoming beta of the game and revealed what to expect post-launch including that Hawkeye will be one of many characters that players can choose from to play as in Marvel’s Avengers. Today, Crystal Dynamics has revealed that Spider-Man will also be joining the roster early next year but exclusively on PlayStation.
Talking about their unique take on the character, Associate Art Director Jeff Adams said this version of Spider-Man is inspired by the comics that saw him venture outside of his comfort zone or “neighborhood.” Jeff Adams said “watching Spider-Man adapt to new surroundings was such a great contrast to his status quo. That tone is exactly what we want to capture for him in Marvel’s Avengers. A familiar but fresh Spider-Man who needs to evolve to take on global threats alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.”
This is also in contrast to Insomniac’s take on Spider-Man as their version of the character had him as a seasoned crimefighter that hadn’t really dealt with any big supervillain threat until the events that transpire in Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Talking about how Spider-Man will fight, Crystal Dynamics said that he will have “an impressive suite of iconic abilities and attacks” and like the other Heroes in the game, Spider-Man will have unique skill trees that players can choose from to make their version of the character play like they want to. You can also expect him to move and fight like he should feeling graceful and light as he arcs through the air and engaging in combat. Spider-Man can also use a variety of web configurations and gadgets to enhance traversal.
Customization doesn’t just stop with how Spider-Man plays. Teaming up with the Avengers gives Spider-Man access to impressive tech and gear that players can choose from such as custom web-shooters from Hank Pym, SHIELD, Stark Industries, and more.
Spider-Man will be introduced through an in-game event that is comprised of a series of unique challenges that he has to take on. Spider-Man will be available early 2021 to owners of the base game, exclusively on PlayStation.
