Ah, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. That delightfully brutal first-person brawler where you and an army of bloodthirsty fellow players trudge around castles, forts, and other pillage-able locations to do battle with one another in glorious bloody combat. While Chivalry focuses on gritty realism (as much as you can get in a video game, anyway), Torn Banner Studios’ new title, Mirage: Arcane Warfare, transmutes the Chivalry formula into one with mystic locales, destructive blasts of magic, and even more dismembered body parts than before. All powered by Unreal Engine 4, of course.
After teasing the game last week, Torn Banner is proud to release the first full-length trailer for Mirage today. You can view it in all of its hyper-goriness below:
Several things stand out that separate Mirage from its Medieval predecessor. For one, movement looks faster. Spells will open up new avenues for mindgames, augmented by the familiar melee combat system. The art direction has taken on a much softer and bolder-colored appearance, but don’t let those visuals fool you. The game is just as violent as ever, and now even features exploding heads. What else do you think is going to happen when you take a fireball to the face?
A synposis of the game’s setting is as follows:
In Mirage: Arcane Warfare, the calm of a strange fantasy world is shattered by ruthless civil war. Warriors armed with steel and magic bring violence and death as they do battle across a fantastical Arabian and Persian-inspired setting of desert sands, market bazaars and grand palaces.
As with Chivalry, players will be able to customize their arsenal and appearance to better aid them in objective-based combat.
Mirage: Arcane Warfare is set to release later in 2016. For now, you can sign up for its beta here.
