Yesterday on April 4th, developers at Compulsion Games and publisher Xbox Game Studios released a launch trailer for South of Midnight. The game is set to release on April 8th of this year and it will be available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series X, and on PC through Steam. Players can play South of Midnight now with the Premium Edition. With the Premium Edition, players can play ahead of the game’s official release date, and the Premium Edition for $50. The official game that is available to pre-purchase before the April 8th release is $40.
The trailer gives players a taste of the story that is being told, as well as footage of gameplay. Players will be playing as Hazel and explore the mythos and also encounter creatures from Southern folklore. Hazel will be able to combat against her enemies with an ancient power which will also help restore creatures and uncover the traumas that consume the creatures as well as her family. Players will also be able to explore the city Prospero after it was destroyed by the hurricane. From the trailer as well, it seems as though Hazel will also have a plush companion with her named Crouton that comes to life before her very eyes.
South of Midnight is an action-adventure RPG game where it tells the story about Hazel’s hometown is ripped apart when a hurricane rips through Prospero. She is then sent into a Southern Gothic world and is summoned to become a Weaver, “a magical mender of broken bonds and spirits,” according to the description on the official Steam page, and being a Weaver grants Hazel special abilities such as spells. With these new abilities, Hazel will be able to confront and subdue the dangerous creatures that lurk about in the world she finds herself in, along with untangling her family’s shared past in the process.
