According to an inside source, Capcom, most famous for producing Street Fighter, Dead Rising, and Monster Hunter, has laid off number of its employees. Although the layoffs came solely from its Capcom Vancouver branch, there were only 250 employees employed at that particular studio, and the reasons for these layoffs are apparently due to a re-shift in the company.
The anonymous source, apparently familiar with the company and various social media posts, states that these significant layoffs are aimed at not only streamlining the company, but to also focus on tackling the next entry in the Dead Rising series. Dead Rising is one of the most notable Capcom titles, and so this reorganization of the Vancouver branch might be to bring the series back to its roots. The previous two Dead Rising games, Dead Rising 3 and Dead Rising 4, strayed away from the previous formula of the two entries of the title. Theses titles tried to have a bigger, more open world for gamers to explore. Fans are currently hoping that the next entry in the Dead Rising series will have a better focus on level design, world size, and game balance that will deliver them an exciting next entry.
These layoffs also had other adverse effects. One unannounced and unnamed project that was being worked on by Capcom Vancouver has ended up being scrapped altogether. The early prototype was not green lit, so no serious work had gone into the project. The game was slated to be a third-person action-adventure game set in an alternate version of New York. These layoffs have not affected any other work by the company. Capcom Vancouver’s mobile game of last year, Puzzle Fighter, will still be developed, and any other projects being worked on by the company will still be in development.
Capcom has not made any comments on the matter.
