The SoulCalibur franchise had a few rough patches and went silent for quite some time thereafter. Fortunately, many fans took one look at the most recent installment SoulCalibur VI, and knew it would return to the roots that made the first games such a success. Now, SoulCalibur VI is moving on to its second season and is not slowing down by any means. The next season pass is providing 4 new characters and also hints at some interesting gameplay changes to the reversal edge system.
As of today, the last DLC character for season 1 Cassandra, Sophitia’s spunky sister, is now playable. It didn’t take long for fans to get a glimpse of what is coming next in the following season for SoulCalibur VI. A sneak peak to Season 2 provides a glimpse at the additional content that will be added to the game. Players also got a glimpse of the new guest character that will be joining the roster for the new season. Haohmaru, from Samurai Showdown, will be joining the fight and will surely be a good rival to SoulCalibur’s classic katana-wielding master Mitsurugi. There will also be 3 more additions to the season 2 content that will join the roster in the future.
Another interesting addition to the game looks like possible changes to the reversal edge system. The reversal edge is a counter ability that starts a sort of rock-paper-scissors fight in the heat of battle. Many have argued the system is broken as the ability can be spammed and provides the user more opportunities to use special abilities based off luck. Looking at the trailer closely, the reversal edge mechanic is featured and looks as though the ability can be blocked now unlike previously. More info will likely be released about the mechanic but not enough has surfaced.
SoulCalibur VI has really ignited the flame it once lost and is looking to hold it’s fans attentions with the constant addition of new fighters. Still no word yet on when season 2 will be released but MXDWN Games will keep you posted when more details are revealed.
